Mojito Chrome Extension

Edit 3/21: Everything in the extension should be working fine again. Mint actually released a new version today, and the extension didn’t break. Yay!

Edit 3/19: I’m aware that the disable timeout functionality is not working at the moment. Apparently Mint didn’t like that people were circumventing their draconian timeout policies and changed the trigger for resetting the idle timer. I’m testing a workaround right now

Edit 3/17: It looks like Mint.com has changed their markup. An updated extension version should be up shortly to address this.

Edit 3/16: Now with the ability to disable Mint timeout.  See the Chrome Web Store for detailed version history here

I built a Chrome extension that allows you to customize the sort order of accounts, among other tweaks.

The extension is very easy to use. Once it is running a new icon will appear next to each account section. Click on it to alternate sorting between ascending/descending/alphabetical. By default when Mint.com first loads it defaults to descending order (like it used to work before Mint regression).

  1. A feature that would be really cool would be a projection on the trends. When I look at debt over time if I could see a projected payoff date that would make me so happy 🙂

    1. HI!

I like your idea, I actually thought about something similar myself. but unfortunately modifying Mint charts is a bit complicated, so it is unlikely this would make it into the extension in the near future.

  2. So, looks like Mint pushed an update that added a negative sign to debt accounts. Personally, I prefer the traditional red font with parens formatting, but whatever. The point is I like to see my biggest debt accounts at the top i.e. I prefer accounts are sorted by the absolute value of the balance.

Any chance we could see this make it into the extension?

    Either way, excellent work.

    1. Hi! Thanks for your feedback!

I just published version 1.41 today. Now your favorite sort preference is remembered across sessions and page refreshes. Each account section can have a different default sort order (i.e.biggest debt at the top).

p.s. I agree, I also prefer seeing the biggest debt first 😉

  3. Hey Mojito Man,

I used your code snippet fix daily since I found out about it and just today learned about the extension — It’s brilliant. I use Mint religiously despite its failings and your tools make it 100% more functional and usable.

A suggestion for you — One thing that’s always really irritated me is the “Payment due” alerts — More specifically the fact that they aren’t reconciled against accounts. I think it would be great if the alert could be reviewed against the account and if a payment has been made, the alert removed.

Not sure if this is something that could even be accomplished in front-end javascript stuff but if anyone can do it, you can.

A beer is on the way to you, thanks again!

  4. Hi Vandre,

I really wished you put this on github so that I could see the code and contribute.

BTW, why don’t you put a link to this blog from the Mojito options page?

    Thanks,
    Omid

    1. Hi there!

If I added a link back here Chrome would issue a permission warning about the FixingMint website. I didn’t put a link to this blog from the Mojito options page so that people don’t get paranoid that “their financial data is being sent to the developer”.

I’ve been very busy at work lately, but I created a GitHub repository today. You can see it here:

      https://github.com/vandre/mojito

      1. Man! You deliver fast!! This is awesome… I will start playing with it soon. 🙂

  5. Quick suggestion, it would be nice if in the “upcoming bills” section I could suppress anything with a $0.00 amount due.

  6. It seems that Mint has made a change that is breaking the sorting of my Investments section. I do notice they are currently displaying a promotional link just under the header, so maybe that is the problem.

  7. Would it be possible to increase the column size of Accounts under the Overview page? My goal is to print out an account list once in a while. The problem is that the small column size cuts off part of the name of the accounts. Thank you.

  8. Looks like Mint has introduced new advertising blocks inside the Credit Card and Loan summary sections, breaking Mojito’s ability to sort them.

Any chance of an update to fix this, please?

    1. I just noticed this as well.. They are really annoying.. I’m about to check-in the fix, it should be available in a couple hours..

      Cheers!

  9. I love the product. Any chance you can add a tab for Actuals and display months across the top and categories down the row with a date range filter?

    Range: current year

    Jan. Feb. Mar
    Dining. 100. 125. 75
    Gas. 29. 32. 28
    …..

  10. One suggestion I have would be the ability hide certain months in the reports.

For example: When looking at my net worth over time if I include all my accounts it is a mess. The “zestimate” of my house goes all the way back when I joined mint (2009) but my mortgage loan goes only back to when I added that account (2013). This means in my report it looks like I had really high net worth from 2009-2013 and then its normal 2013-Today. It makes the top value for the x axis really high so you can’t see the changes.

Using mojito I would like to hide 2009-2013 from that report. I know I can do this using the “custom dates” but when you select this it only shows yearly totals rather than months.

Maybe the next level to this would be if there was an entire “mojito trends” section that would analyze the data and create better reports.

  11. Really like your extension, the only thing for me that is missing from both Mint and your extension is the ability to have a “widget” that shows the upcoming bills and what the effect on my balance would be. This really helps better visualize the actual cash flow upcoming and allows for easy viewing of available funds. Is this something that could be added by you in your extension or is it a feature that Mint would need to implement?

Thanks for your hard work on this extension!

  12. It would be fantastic if you could hide “Closed” accounts on the Transactions tab. I’ve been a Mint user for years and have accumulated several accounts that are no longer active. I want to retain the trending information, but they clutter up the Active accounts here.

    Thanks!

  13. I have a lot of accounts and it would be extremely useful to be able to apply a filter to the account list so that only accounts meeting the filter is shown.
    Is that even possible?
If so, I would give each account name keywords so that I can apply filters to see certain groups of accounts!

  14. Hey MojitoMan,

It would be great if you provided the option to hide categories on the main page. I’ve recently finished paying off my student loans, and the “Loans” section remains there with an “Add a loan!!!!!!!!!!!1” link. Such an eyesore!

Adding a simple display:none to the element works fine. elementid is moduleAccounts-loan
